ROBSON, Stuart (Class of 1958)

You are warmly welcomed to leave a message below, share your memories and celebrate the life of Stuart Robson who passed away in January 2025.

Stuart's brother, Terry (Class of 1960), has provided the following obituary:

Stuart joined school in 1950 leaving in 1958. He was house captain of Brookes House, gained colours for lacrosse (he was selected to play for Cheshire) and was cricket captain for 2 seasons. In his last year he became Head Boy.

Whilst at school he was selected by the British Schools Exploring Society to join a group of 40 from all schools within the UK to survey and explore the fauna and flora of Labrador in Canada.  His area of expertise was natural history on that expedition.

After leaving he went on to study dentistry at Newcastle University where he played hockey and cricket.  He was capped by Northumberland at hockey. Returning to Cheshire he joined a dental practice in Macclesfield. He played both hockey and cricket for Bramhall and was capped by Cheshire at hockey. Moving to live in York, he again played both hockey and cricket becoming the president of York Hockey Club.

His interest in his profession led him to become President of the Yorkshire Branch of the British Dental Association and eventually the National President of the BDA in which role he negotiated new contracts and conditions for the profession at the Dept of Health and Social Services. Socially he was very active and became Chairman of the York Lions Club, and successively Chairman of York 41 Club and York Probus Club. Interested in the local community he joined the Poppleton Rural District Council serving as their Chairman for 5 years.

Stuart will be greatly missed by his wife Lalage, son Richard and his family, and daughter Victoria and her husband.

They are extremely grateful for all the messages of sympathy which have been received from many who knew him and appreciated his hard work in all activities he excelled within.
