Carol Brock, 1952-2023

Carol joined CHS as a Foundationer boarder (G52) in 1960 when she was eight years old and remained at the school until 1969. From a young age, she had wanted to be a nurse and as soon as she was eighteen she joined Withington Hospital to train as a State Registered Nurse. Her finals took place just before her wedding in 1973.

In the years following, she qualified and worked first as a district nurse, and then later as a senior health visitor, supporting new mothers in the Manchester area. Once her son was at school, Carol went on, whilst still working, to complete her PGCE and then graduated with a Masters Degree in Education. She finished her career as a Lecturer in Nursing Practice at Bangor University and sat on the All Wales Committee to develop the working parameters for the new qualification of Prescribing Nurse.

In her spare time, Carol became a serious amateur photographer, setting up her own dark room. She had a number of photographs published and on at least one occasion won a national photography competition. Photography remained her favourite pastime for many years and, in addition, she sailed, embroidered, painted, and played badminton and golf. In retirement, she moved to the Highlands and is buried at the foot of Glen Nevis, her favourite mountain. She leaves behind, a son, Ashley Kirkham, a professional underwater photographer and instructor
