The Hairy Hikers: a walk to remember

From Dovestone to Bollington: in memory of Matthew Caine, Class of 2000, and former Languages teacher, Stephen Buckley
5 May 2021
General

Many of you may already know the sad news about the death of Old Waconian Matthew Caine, Class of 2000. Matt was a maths teacher who, when he died of a brain tumour in 2018, left behind a wife and three-year-old son. Whilst at CHS he had been part of a close-knit group of friends who are now hoping to raise money for Brain Tumour Research in his memory.

James Buckley and Mark Hallett (also Class of 2000) will also be aiming to collect money for The Stroke Association in memory of James’s father, Stephen Buckley, who was a modern languages teacher at CHS for over 20 years before he died suddenly of a stroke in 2005.

Mark and James are planning to walk from Dovestone reservoir (where there is a memorial tree planted in Matt’s memory) to White Nancy in Bollington, one of Stephen’s favourite places to hike. The walk is a distance of 44.5 km (around 27 miles) and will take place on Saturday 12 June 2021.

James and Mark are very grateful to those of their contemporaries who have already contributed and would be delighted if any other members of the CHS community wished to support their fundraising.

The link below is to the JustGiving page of the “Hairy Hikers”.  With two team members raising funds for both charities, anyone wishing to donate should follow the appropriate link on the site, depending on which Old Wac or which charity you wish to support.

The Hairy Hikers

The Hairy Hikers thank you in advance for any support you may give to these two very worthy causes.
