Each year CHS remembers those who have fallen and suffered resulting from the impact of war, and honours those who have, and continue, to dedicate their lives to service.
Remembrance Day would usually see the whole School population congregate outside the Main Building for a service of commemoration. In an effort to maintain this sense of communal reflection, while abiding by current restrictions, we invited all members of the staff and student body, along with CHS families and Old Waconians, to take part in our virtual Service of Remembrance.
Our virtual service followed the story of the Spanish Flu and included poignant readings from students, staff and Old Waconians. The Last Post was played beautifully by Sixth Form music student, Alice, followed by the 2-minute silence, allowing us all to take time to remember and reflect.
Following the service the Head, Mr Smith, our Head Boy, James, and teacher and Old Waconian, Mrs Barfoot, laid the wreaths at the Old Waconians' sundial memorial.
If you missed our Remembrance live stream you can watch it again below.
Your Remembrance Stories
Members of the CHS community have also shared their Remembrance stories with us throughout the day, including this memory from one of our teaching assistants, Mrs Barber, about her Great Uncle, who subsequently married an Old Waconian, Mary McNair (nee Walker), Class of 1936. You can read all of the stories on our CHS Remembers Blog.
