Actor Dana Haqjoo (Class of 1987) came to school during his run in the sell-out production of Road at the Royal Exchange Theatre. He spent the morning with our Upper Sixth students, leading a drama workshop and sharing honest insights into his journey from CHS to a successful career in acting.

Students were given the opportunity to receive feedback and theatrical advice from Dana, guiding them to build confidence on stage and refine their acting skills.

To make the visit even more memorable, students attended a performance of Road the following day at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Giving our students the opportunity to see Dana's performance on stage after hearing first-hand about the dedication and resilience behind his career.

Road By Jim Cartwright, featuring Lucy Beaumont, Shobna Gulati, Lesley Joseph, Johnny Vegas, and with special guest Sir Tom Courtenay on film.

Road summary:

It’s 1986. Your rumbustious chaperone Scullery guides you down the road, picking up the raucous and the ready for it, as ‘owt can happen tonight’. From dusk till dawn, the hopelessly hilarious and divinely desperate laugh, sing, dance and eat chips – all searching for something different.

Jim Cartwright’s award-winning masterpiece invites you to join the inhabitants of this derelict northern road on an unforgettable journey. Shockingly relevant to our lives today, the play’s visceral, eloquent poetry paints a tough world with tenderness.

Directed by Artistic Director Selina Cartmell, this revival marks the 40th anniversary of the play. In this exhilarating theatrical experience, audiences explore the Royal Exchange before taking their seats in the theatre.

‘You want something different. Stay, I mean it.’
