IET’s Faraday Challenge Days are STEM based activity days where six teams of Year 8 pupils from various schools work to solve an engineering problem.
In team CHS, Waconians Henry, Isa, Ethan, Beatrice, Mia and Evie fought off stiff competition from Stockport Grammar School, Cheadle Hulme High School, Withington School For Girls and Sale Grammar School. The budding engineers were tasked with creating a landing pad for a drone delivering post to homes.
A fast-paced day involving design, planning and testing their prototypes, pupils were also required to prepare a presentation and consider finance. All teams came up with creative and innovative solutions to demonstrate their collaborative working.
CHS Physics Teacher Mrs Lisa Bradshaw comments on the day, saying: “The Faraday Challenge Days give students an opportunity to have a small taste of what it might be like to work on a real-life engineering project and gives them an appreciation of all the different challenges and talents needed to make a project a success. Our Waconians thoroughly enjoy the competitive nature of the day and work really well together to produce interesting solutions! Well done team!“
