Dr Emily Setty conducts research directly with young people to explore and understand their perspectives on and experiences of sex and relationships. She addresses topics relating to consent and online sexual behaviours, with the aim of identifying the risks and challenges that young people face and how to intervene effectively to reduce harm and to enable them to have and experience healthy and positive relationships.
She works with schools, police, local authorities, statutory and non-statutory children’s services, as well as national and local policy makers, to translate research findings and evidence into best practice. Currently, Dr Setty is working with Surrey Police, the Department for Education and a variety of commercial and third-sector organisations to devise, implement and evaluate preventative and remedial interventions to tackle harmful sexual behaviour in schools.
As we all know, the role of pastoral care has never been more vital. The past few years have brought both new challenges and opportunities for those of us guiding children through their educational and personal journeys. While traditional conferences are increasingly difficult to attend due to time and budget constraints, we still believe in the power of shared knowledge and collaboration.
That’s why we are introducing this series of free online talks, featuring expert speakers who will explore key topics affecting the pastoral care of young people. The talks should prove insightful and useful to head teachers, deputies and designated safeguarding leads, but they are open to everyone working in education and will provide a development opportunity and Inset Resource for staff at all levels.
