Speaker: Dr Daniele Viktor Leggio (Lecturer in Linguistics at University of Manchester)
Manchester is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in Europe, with an estimated 150-200 languages spoken by its many communities. But how are languages counted? And what opportunities and challenges are created by such diversity? How do local authorities and community groups promote and celebrate language diversity? We will look into these questions and find out why and how languages matter for the city and for you as individuals.
Join us for this free, informal, half an hour, lunchtime talk as part of our Language Matters Series 2021.
The talk will take place via Google Meet so you will need a Google account to access the link which will display on the screen after registration.
