Join Our Worldwide OneCHS Charity Hike

It's 54 years since the first CHS Charity Hike and for 2020 we're inviting the whole CHS Community to take part in a hike with a difference.

Started in 1966 by former member of staff and keen walker, Ian Ray, the CHS Charity Hike began when he walked with children from Henshaw’s School for the Blind, raising £600 for the cause.

54 years on and in 2020 we're inviting the whole CHS Community to take part in a hike with a difference.

This year we would love for our students, staff, Old Waconians and extended CHS Community, wherever they are in the world, to complete a hike of either 5 or 8 miles with their families, friends and dogs.* Or for the even more energetic, why not get on your bike, rollerblades or even unicycle and join in the fun on wheels? As always, fancy dress is optional!

Current students will complete their hike during the October half term holidays and everyone else is invited to join in between 17th October and 23rd October to coincide with this.

As with previous years any money raised by our students taking part will support our four House charities (East Cheshire Hospice, 42nd Street, Beechwood Cancer Care, Child Flight) along with Hope 4 the World and CHS's work in the Gambia. Any money donated via the OneCHS Charity Hike event page will support the CHS Bursary Fund.

We caught up with Ian Ray about the change of format for this year. He said, "I’m very pleased that the charity hike will be continuing this year. I hope everyone has an enjoyable walk ‘virtually’ and decides to donate to continue the philanthropic tradition on which the charity hike began over 50 years ago."

Register for the hike
To let us know that you are taking part in the hike (and to make your donation to the Bursary Fund) please sign up on the OneCHS Charity Hike event page. Students will be able to donate their money via Parent Portal.

Follow our hikers' progress
During the hike we're asking participants to send in their photos and these will be shared on the School's social media channels.**

Send us your charity hike memories
Over the last 54 years we know that there will be lots of wonderful stories and photos from current and Old Waconians and staff. Please share them with us by emailing er@chschool.co.uk and we will share them with the CHS Community, or add them as comments to this news story.

*Stay safe, stay healthy. In addition to making sure you are prepared for your hike (clothing, refreshments, footwear etc.) please follow your local government guidance regarding Covid-19 in relation to where you can hike, and who you can hike with.

**Send in your photos via email er@chschool.co.uk, complete our OneCHS news form, or share directly on social media, tagging us in: Twitter @CheadleHulmeSch, or Instagram @oldwaconians. Make sure to include information about who is in the photo (including "Class of" for Old Waconians).
