Campaigning by Cartoon

Old Waconian illustrator, Ella Bucknall (Class of 2012), has created the following t shirt based on a photograph from the recent vigil for Sarah Everard.

We asked Ella more about her work as an illustrator and why she wanted to make the t shirt:

"I became involved in political cartooning and illustration whilst studying for my MA in Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts. It was 2016 - the year of the Brexit referendum and Trump's election. Drawing felt like the most natural form of activism to me, and powerful. It became a way to regain a sense of control when around me the world felt chaotic.

Unable to physically attend the vigil for Sarah Everard and the protests against the Police Crackdown Bill, I still wanted to do something to show support for Sisters Uncut, the group who have been organising protests and who do amazing work by taking direct action for domestic violence services. So I designed this t shirt to raise money for their fantastic cause. The design is based off a photograph by Chris Bethell taken for Vice which went viral after the vigil. The quote on the protester's t-shirt comes from a work by the amazing feminist artist Jenny Holzer.
